1. What are the VETS UNITED animal welfare teaching modules?
The VETS UNITED Animal Welfare Teaching Modules are comprehensive, science-based resources designed to support applied animal welfare education. The collection currently includes 15 modules, each focusing on a specific animal welfare topic.

Each module contains:

  • A lecture with detailed teaching notes
  • A short quiz
  • Recommended further reading
  • Suggested classroom activities and field trip ideas

2. Who are the modules for?
These modules are primarily designed to support the training of animal health professionals - both in academic settings and for continuing professional development. While they are tailored for professionals, anyone with an interest in animal welfare is welcome to use them.

3. Are the modules free to use?
Yes, the VETS UNITED Animal Welfare Teaching Modules are completely free of charge. To access them, simply complete a short registration form to create an account. Once registered, you can view the modules online or download them as PDF or PowerPoint files.

4. How do I register?

You’ll be asked to provide some basic information, such as your name and country. You will also need to choose a username (e.g., your name or email address) and create a password, which you’ll confirm during the registration process.

5. Are the VETS UNITED Animal Welfare Teaching Modules an online learning course?
No, the modules are not an online course. They were developed to support in-person training delivered by lecturers, educators, or CPD (Continuing Professional Development) trainers. The responsibility for delivering and facilitating the training lies with the individual trainer or institution. As such, VETS UNITED does not issue certificates of completion.

6. Can the VETS UNITED Animal Welfare Teaching Modules be adapted?
Yes, the modules are designed to be adaptable. Trainers can select specific topics that best suit their audience and context. While individual slides within a topic cannot be modified, you are free to:

  • Remove slides that are not relevant or appropriate in level
  • Add new slides with region-specific examples or additional content

7. In what languages are the modules available?
The modules are currently available in English, Spanish, and French.
Please note: the Fish Welfare module is available only in English and Spanish at this time.

8. Can I share the modules with others?

The Step-by-Step Guide is a practical resource that outlines how to successfully and sustainably integrate animal welfare into academic education. Developed from WTS’s extensive experience in delivering animal welfare training programs, the guide includes:

  • Real-world case examples
  • Templates and supporting documents to assist implementation

The guide is specifically designed for higher education institutions offering courses in animal health or related fields. Its goal is to help educators deliver effective and comprehensive animal welfare training for their students.
